Biography

Helena Bonham Carter was born on 26 May 1966, in London, England, United Kingdom. She has two older brothers Edward and Tom. Her father, Raymond, was a merchant banker and in the 1960's, the alternative Bank of England UK director representative at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. Her mother, Elena Propper de Callejón, was a psychotherapist. Their family lived in Golders Green, London, where Helena grew up.

She went to an independent girls' school at South Hampstead High School and later a Westminster School near the Palace of Westminster. Helena was rejected admission to King's College, Cambridge University. Her grades and test scores were fine, but the school officials were afraid that she would leave mid-term to pursue her acting career. Because of the rejection, Helena decided to concentrate fully on acting.

Helena had achieved success in films early, before she reached the age of 20. Her first part of her career she was in "Room With a View" and "Jane Gray", she became known for her period, tasteful (and corset wearing) British and American novels. Helena was recognized for not only her beauty and talent, but her courage by the Oscar nods with her claim to fame, "Wings of a Dove".

All though she was dubbed "corset-queen" and "English Rose", Helena broke the mold as her career expanded for other successful films such as "Fight Club", "Planet of the Apes", the "Harry Potter" series and more recently, Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street".

As for a personal life, Helena's partner in life is director Tim Burton. She has briefly dated Steve Martin and and Rufus Sewell, fellow actors and one of her longer realtionships was with Kenneth Branagah from 1994 to summer of 1999. But 2001 she met Tim Burton and they have been together since. They have two children, a boy, Billy Ray Burton (on 4 October 2003) and this recent 15 December 2007 had their daughter at 41 years of age.
